srt-execs-sat2015Team SRT made a big splash in Washington, DC recently, as founder and Chairman Rick Lund, CEO Dave Flynn, CMO J.R. Russell, CTO Conrad Smith and others attended the Satellite 2015 conference.

The annual conference, which brings together more than 12,500 satellite communications executives, suppliers, policymakers and engineers from 70 countries for four days, took place at the Washington Convention Center.

Among this year’s highlights was SRT CTO Conrad Smith’s participation in a panel discussion on cybersecurity. Sharing the stage with executives from Intelsat, ViaSat Inc., and ND SatCom, Conrad spoke about the most common vulnerabilities of satcoms from potential hacking attacks, as well as the tactics and costs required to guard against such breaches. Often, he noted, it is up to vendors to educate their customers on the need for greater cybersecurity safeguards in satcom equipment. Conrad’s participation in the panel discussion was covered in the Via Satellite Satellite 2015 Show Daily.

As a result of his participation there and subsequent conversation with panel moderator Rakesh Bharania of Cisco, Conrad attended a meeting of the Global VSAT Forum’s Cyber-Security Task Force, a group dedicated to crafting industry-wide cybersecurity standards.

Among his many meetings throughout the week, SRT founder and Chairman Rick Lund was interviewed for an article that appeared in Aviation Todayon the future of satcoms for commercial unmanned aircraft systems (commonly referred to as UAS, UAVs or drones).

Further, SRT was featured in articles in two satellite trade magazines that premiered at the conference. The March issue of SatMagazine featured a piece by CTO Conrad Smith that discussed satellite hacking as the next frontier in security breaches.

And in this month’s issue of Room: The Space Journal, Rick Lund discusses the implications of the relatively new entry into space exploration by commercial entities and what that means for satellite communications.

SRT also exhibited at the satellite show as part of Thuraya Telecommunications’ display. SRT CMO J.R. Russell staffed the exhibit tirelessly, meeting colleagues and customers from around the world.

Last week’s strong showing in Washington, DC demonstrated SRT’s continuing emergence as a premiere satcoms vendor, both nationally and internationally.
